Why do we call it “The Monty Classic?”

Chris loved playing golf, watching PGA golf tournaments on television, and enjoying a fantasy golf league with friends. He was affectionately known as “Monty” after regularly including British golfer Colin “Monty” Montgomerie on his fantasy teams. His strategy regularly won tournaments, and he was proud of his nickname!

As we approach the 5th Anniversary of this cherished event, we would like to share some exciting news and update you on our plans for this year.

It is with overwhelming gratitude that we are able to announce that the scholarship has reached its initial endowment goal!  Through an extremely generous anonymous donation, we have been able to secure our endowment.  We will be able to continue to award an annual renewable scholarship of $1,000 per student in perpetuity.  Our hearts are full as we know that we are keeping Chris’ name alive and doing so much good through the scholarship.  We will continue our fundraising efforts to be able to award further scholarships as the need in the community far exceeds our current ability to support.  We are extraordinarily grateful for the tremendous support that everyone has shown!

We want everyone to know how much this community means to us.  Every year, we cherish the chance to see our beloved family and friends gathering in Chris’ name and doing so much good through the scholarship.  Given the unprecedented public health circumstances that we find ourselves in, it is unfortunately not safe to bring the community together this year.  We have decided to cancel the 2020 Chris Mayer Memorial Golf Outing and Luncheon in order to prioritize the health of everyone we love.  It has been a difficult decision to make, but we feel it is the appropriate course of action to ensure that everyone (especially those that would need to travel) can stay safe.
